Prevention Programs

Fostering Healthy Choices in Allen County Schools

Prevention Programs are a critical initiative led by the Allen County Scottsville Faith Coalition in collaboration with local schools and community organizations like Scottsville Police Department and Allen County Sheriffs Department. These programs are designed to educate students about the risks of substance abuse and to empower them to make healthy choices. Through a combination of education, support, and community involvement, these initiatives aim to prevent substance abuse and promote wellness among the youth of Allen County.

Program Elements:

  1. Educational Workshops: Interactive sessions that educate students on the dangers of drug and alcohol use, the science of addiction, and the long-term impact on their health and goals.
  2. Peer Mentoring: Older students are trained to be mentors to younger peers, providing guidance, support, and a positive example in making healthy lifestyle choices.
  3. Parental Engagement: Programs also engage parents by providing them with information on how to discuss substance abuse with their children, recognize signs of use, and support their children’s wellness.
  4. Community Collaboration: Working with local law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other community leaders to create a unified front against substance abuse in schools.

Benefits of Prevention Programs:

  • Educates Students: Increases awareness and understanding of the consequences of substance abuse.
  • Builds Resilience: Equips students with the skills and confidence to resist peer pressure and make informed decisions.
  • Involves Families: Encourages family discussions and involvement in children’s lives, which is crucial for prevention.
  • Strengthens Community Ties: Enhances the role of the community in supporting youth and creating a safe environment for their growth and development.

Get Involved: We invite educators, parents, students, and community members to join us in this vital initiative. There are many ways to participate, from volunteering in educational sessions to supporting program outreach efforts. Your involvement can make a significant difference in the lives of our young people.
